Buff-necked Woodpecker

It certainly knew it was being watched and was a willing performer. That was good for me. Shot this female along the Kingfisher trail of Sepilok's Rainforest Discovery Center. It is one of the more common woodpeckers of the lowland forests of Borneo.

The Meiglyptes tukki hunts on low lying trunks and fallen trees to search for ants and termites. It is often seen hunting with other species like the drones, fantails and malkohas during mixed flock hunting 'parties'.This one, however, was feeding solo when Robert, the cook of the Banana Restaurant, Sepilok Jungle Resort pointed me to the tree-hugging lady.
