Ashy Drongo

A group of ashy drongos frequent the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge to the point of being a pest for me as I was looking for more species to video. However they were good entertainers, performing aerobatics as they took turns to snatch helpless moths and bugs that congregate the lodge's verandah.

Hundreds of insects would be attracted by 2 bright and warm lights in the night and by morning they continue to sit there almost offering themselves to the birds in the attack to follow.

All you have to do is set up the tripod after your breakfast and wait at a spot with proper lighting to catch the onslaught. Swoop after swoop the drongo will dive in and swerve through tight angles to snatch the insects.
