Archaeoattacus staudingeri

Recorded at Kinabalu, Borneo

It looks like the Attacus atlas but is actually a different species with a strong purple tint on the browns of the wings. This large beauty is rare these days. Don't buy the framed collections please.

Archaeoattacus staudingeri

Quivering wing seems to be characteristic of its behavior. Not sure why it is doing this, could it be warming up for a flight, attracting a mate - equivalent of a flirting blink, or just warding off other smaller insects. The video shows the 4 transparent triangular windows on its wings, that is such a wonderful design.
