Buff-rumped Woodpecker

'Buff what?', you might asked but sorry this woodpecker pair was not parting the primaries to show off their rump. Not caught on camera but the buffy backs were there.

The Buff-rumped Woodpecker is similar to the Buff-necked in looks apart from the tell-tale areas where the buff appears and the Buff-necked has darker plumage. The Buff-rumped is also slightly smaller. The two share similar habitats in the lowland and logged forests to hill forest. They have similar chittering calls too.

This pair was taking shelter from the rain on a coconut tree at the Banana Restaurant of the Sepilok Jungle Resort. It was Robert the cook who brought me to the spot.
